ETAI: Keeping in Touch Newsletter 33: October, 2010 Dear Readers, I'm slowly coming to the surface after the flood of tasks, which I had put off until after the holidays, nearly drowned me. Now, before October ends, I offer you the October issue of the ETAI Newsletter. A few weeks after the last newsletter, the ETAI board met in Tel Aviv ? hosted by the British Council in their very pleasant conference room. There we were introduced to the new director, Simon Kay and heard from Helen Sykes about possible future workshops for English teachers sponsored by the British Council. Watch for details about that in future announcements. ETAI's financial situation was also discussed at the meeting. It was decided that, in order to cover our rising costs ? the office, costs of running the conferences, and printing the ETAI Forum, certain fees for members, including membership and major conference registration fees, will be raised slightly. Mini-conference fees will stay the same: free for members and 30NIS for non-members. Speaking of mini-conferences... This year's first mini-conference is scheduled to take place in Afula, on Wednesday, October 27th at Oren School. There is an impressive line-up of speakers and varied sessions to appeal to all teaching levels. You can see the full program on the ETAI site - http://www.etai.org.il/ Remember that if you have an idea for a mini-conference in your area, you can write to Fran Sokel - fsokel@xxxxxxxxx, who is the Board member in charge of these events. Next on ETAI's calendar, after Afula, is the Winter conference in Beer Sheva on December 5th, at Ben Gurion University ? "Myths and Truths in English Teaching". We are in the process of collecting speaker proposals now, and would be very happy to see your proposal appear in our e-mail box! So far, we have lined up 3 excellent plenary speakers, including Dr. Judy Steiner, Dr. Elisheva Barkon, and Professor Yishai Tobin of Ben Gurion University. Do consider sending in a proposal and sharing your ideas and expertise. You can download a proposal form on the ETAI site. Fill it in and e-mail it to the address at the bottom of the form. Especially in this period of changes in the English curriculum, ETAI can be a great source of support and sharing. Henry Ford is quoted as saying," Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.? Let's encourage our colleagues to join us in coming together at ETAI conferences and let's work together to make them a success.
