Last week, I participated in a two-day seminar, organized by Ruach Chadasha, a group of teachers running for the Irgun Hamorim elections, led by Dudi Friedman. In all of my 32 years of membership in the Irgun, I have never felt elated as I did during this seminar. I am filled with hope after meeting Dudi Friedman and other people in his team, listening to serious lecturers on the topic of EDUCATION, which, by the way, has a lot to do with HOT, LOG and PROJECTS in all areas, not only in English. Just imagine if we could work on a joint project with the History teacher, where English articles support a History research project conducted in Hebrew! YES, WE CAN bring about a change within the Irgun, which will affect the whole system. My optimism may sound naïve to some, but what have we got to lose? The current leader has failed to produce any real change since the strike. Dudi Friedman has a different approach, and I believe it will make a difference. I have spoken to him about our specific issues, and was refreshed by his attentiveness, quick understanding and way of looking at things. I have never been involved in the Irgun's election process before, but this time, I believe that a fresh spirit is urgently needed, and Ruach Chadasha has the vision. Please spread the news amongst your colleagues (not just the English teachers), so we can get organized in time. Dudi, or other teachers on his team, will be happy to come and talk to teaching staff at the different schools. You can read about Ruach Chadasha on the website: www.4morim.co.il, where you will also find Laurie Ornstein's letter, written almost a year ago. I'm sure that, together, we can make this happen.
