Regarding the argument over the salary to be paid to high tech people or other university graduates wishing to join the teaching profession: I think they should be given credit for the vetek in their profession. We cannot expect people with 20 years experience in a certain field to start as novices. It does not seem fair! Their salary will be anyway lower - much lower - than the salary they had in their "old" profession. It will still be lower than teachers with a parallel vetek since they won't have collected the gmulim by the time they join the teaching profession. How else can we expect to attract high quality candidates into our schools? How else can we solve the problem of the increasing shortage of teachers? Let's direct all our energy not towards fighting anyone who wishes to join us, but towards raising public support to our claim that all teachers - at all levels - should be paid more, and that will ultimately bring more good people into our profession and raise the level of education that is, unfortunately, deteriorating.
