We would welcome some Solomonic wisdom from fellow Etniers on this
situation.

 1. The school gets its funding from parents and donations. Not the
municipality or a big network. So no parents contributions no teachers
salaries. No sympahtetic mayor to pay our striking salaries or keep the
school open .
2. Parents have been cancelling or threatening to cancel their horaat kevah
unless we go back to work.
3. As a result the school has a serious financial problem and its existence
is threatened . 50+ staff could loose their jobs. The kids could loose
their school. We could get other jobs but we all love where we work!
4. If parents continue to cancel, there will be no salaries for teachers
increased or otherwise.
5. Can't do proper recruitment for 7th grade next year as they can't do an
open day.
6. Competing local schools are strke breaking and carrying on as usual. (
%&^*%!! ).
7. Our school has approached the Irgun explaining the situation and
requesting permission to teach. Unlike the other schools who carry on
regardless ... Irgun says only Mr Erez can give permission. But none of the
letters to Mr Erez have yielded a reply.
8. Meanwhile the horaot kevah are being cancelled and parents say they will
pull out their kids and put them in a non-striking school.
9. In light of the above the school has decided to go back on a 3 day week
basis .
10. It was made quite clear that any teacher who doesn't want to go back
will be respected and is not being forced to go back.
11. Another issue: The school has not been paying into our keren histalmut
and pension as they should be. Have been deducting and not payinging in.
Claim lack of funds. They know about it and they back pay slowly. Me and my
English teacher colleage feel that why the hell should we break a strike and
go back to save the school when they are not 'saving us' by paying into our
funds on time.
12. We have a terrific principal (We should all be so lucky) who respects
the teachers who don't feel right going back. There are enough teachers
going back that the school can function.
13. If we strike-break we let other teachers do our dirty work and fight for
us.
14. If we don't strike-break our colleagues going back to school are keeping
the school going for us.

We look forward to any and all comments.

Gloria
