I'm sure it wouldn't go well in English either.
     Yesterday something connected to this happened in my house:  My
daughter, who speaks fluent American accented English, read a short note in
English of recognition for her work  to her Israeli grandmother.  She read
the note in a thick Israeli accent.  Overhearing her, I almost dropped the
dishes I was putting away!  I guess she figured her grandmother would
understand the English better if it were spoken in an Israeli accent -
according to this article, she figured right!
