Hello again,
I just want to clarify something about the new HOTS  program .. .In the
pilot (which , of course is not the same as the real program will be )
 Although there was a required set of expected assignments not every one was
a composition and not every one was  in writing !!! (class discussion/
enactments )   This is where the misconception comes in.  I admit that in
the pilot we did more writing than we should have (which by the way greatly
improved all the pupils writing skills )  but we did later discover that we
could use shorter activities which could be included in the LOG.  For
example , we had the kids choose some sentences/ quotes from the stories
(copy them) and then write  a  few sentences about it. ( like if  the quote
showed why a certain character did something or if could help us predict the
next part).. This was NOT a lot of writing. The students did not have to
re-write it and it was NOT too hard to check . * AND my pupils really liked
this kind of work vs. answering dry question after question about where ,
when , who etc..*   We also used graphic organizers for such HOTS as problem
solving which again did not entail writing too much but did really teach the
pupils how to organize their ideas better*.*

So before .. everyone continues screaming..about the extra work, the vast
amount of writing.. maybe , just maybe they should try it and see how it
works  This is a good year to try out some of the ideas which are being
taught in the course without the obligation of it being their Bagrut grade.
. .

A  not rich but perhaps .. yes.. MAD teacher. who believes that our job is
to make our students think and if we , the English teachers are the only
subject that does this .. so be it   !!

PS. I don't think the program is a lemon BUT if there are those who do..try
looking at it in a different perspective. !! (hence- tasty lemonade)
