just to make sure i was not misunderstood when i wrote about the weak students in my school and the pressure to have everyone do at least 4 pt bagrut - i like the school i teach at very much. at the moment we are the only high school here, and we have students on all levels - from very strong 5 pt classes (sometimes we even have an accelerated class in high school, and we have mofet classes in the jr high) to the very weakest kids, and everything in between. our town has another "growing" jr high, that will have 7-8-9th grade this september, and continue growing as a high school after that. we have almost no pressure from the school to change magen grades. they understand that if a kid didn't do lit or book reports or project (in the days of no sanctions) - 30% of his magen grade will be 0 or 10 or whatever. we have a wonderful staff of caring teachers (almost all of them, not just the english teachers) and a fantastic group of creative english teachers who work together and support each other. but as i wrote, we do have a problem with the weakest kids and with borderline classes, where there is a lot of pressure to push them up to the higher level. i just wanted to make sure i wasn't scaring off anyone who was thinking of moving to our town, or who might want join us as a teacher in the future! sara g -- sara g in israel sarag@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx saragabai@xxxxxxxxx Visit us at The E Zone http://clickit3.ort.org.il/ganyavneenglish ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
