I have two stories to tell about teaching kids to cheat. When my son was in 6th grade, the class was preparing for a regional test in geography. His teacher closed the door and told the kids not to tell anyone. She then wrote all the questions to the test on the board and told the kids to study for the test. My son told me and I approached the principal who was shocked. She asked to see his notebook and then talked to the teacher. To my great sorrow, the teacher figured out who had 'snitched' to his parents - because she guessed who it might be. What was the result for the teacher? "She had been punished enough because she had a very difficult weekend with her conscience." She was supposed to apologize to the class after they finished their year-end party - but that never happened. The second story is about a boy who traded test papers with his friend who had a much better grade. He wrote his name on the paper and took it home to his mother. When the deception came to light, the mother was invited to a meeting with the principal, the boy, the home-rrom teacher and me. The mother said to the boy - That you lied to the teachers - "maylay" (I dont' quite know how to translate this into English) - but you lied to me! So where do kids learn to cheat???
