**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** I am very concerned about this public non-response to the questions raised by teachers about the modular Bagrut. It seems to me that our society is sending out a signal to our children that there are two possible options when responding to a problem: cheat your way through and hope you don't get caught or ignore it completely and hope it will go away. People in this country have many problems to deal with so it is possible that the number of actual complaints the Ministry received was small in relation to the number of teachers in the country. These same teachers are dealing with budget and staff cuts as well. Like many other problems in the country it is also possible that some individuals feel that they will simply be ignored until they "go away" so they have not spoken up about their concerns. It is all well and good that we were given a booklet and "sample" exams (which our school used as a "matconet") but they were so far removed from the difficulty of the real exam that they left both the teachers and the students with false expectations. It is wonderful that we were given courses and other information, but it is clear from the ETNI discussion that these did not fully prepare us for the actual testing. I must say that I support the module exam. I think that it is a good idea and gives options to the students that didn't exsist before. But until we decide that we are testing ENGLISH and not higher thinking, logic skills or citizenship and give the students options to show what they know the test will not be valid.
