There is a position paper / power point presentation that was written by the
ministry - I forgot who wrote it - that explains the plan to change the
entire Bagrut system. They want to consolidate subjects with all the
native tongue language subjects to be taught like we teach English (or were
taught Englsih as a subject abroad including language, literature and
writing all in the same subject and not seperately as it is done here.)
They also want to combine other subjects. I had the paper but I threw it
out. Every subject is to be taught on two levesl except English and Math,
which will be taught on three. Every subject is to be taught for four hours
a week , regarding the level. A pupil will only be allowed to take one or
two subjects at the high level and all his other subjects are to be taken on
the basic level. After I read the paper / presentation all I could think
was, "Well, we have a terrible school system and a terrible Bagrut system
that answers to very few students' needs and now they've figured out how to
make it even worse." We got the paper from Histadrut HaMorim because my
husband sits on one of their committees. He seems to think that nothing
will come of it, but who knows?

Thanks, Nira, for catching this.
Has anyone heard anything more about this? 4 weekly hours for English in
Yod
to Yod Bet, amongst other changes. Check it out.
