I concur with Batya. Rescue 2 is the absolute best book for Phd (pupils having difficulties) in the ninth grade. It is respectful of their age, interesting, easy to use and basically excellent. It could be used for very weak kids in the 10th grade as well.

I'm a high school teacher who generally teaches the weakest kids,
and they suffer the most. It is so difficult to find suitable textbooks.
I must admit that I totally goofed it last year for 9th grade hakbatza
bet, which was more like a gimmel. I should have used one of my
old favorites "Going Places" or "Rescue 2." At least they give good
texts, and my previous classes of MLD's and hakbtzot gimmel always
learned well from them. This year I'm going back to "Rescue 2,"
and I feel like I'm with an old friend, though I understand that
some teachers don't enjoy the humor there. I've found that 12th
graders who started with it still remembered many of the stories.
