English Teachers' Award Ceremony By: Ofer Gvirsman The English Teachers? awards ceremony, which took place on June 12th, was an event of pride and long deserved recognition for the English teaching community in Israel. The ceremony, was a culmination of Dr. Judy Steiner's (Chief Inspector for English Language Education) year long effort, to recognize the efforts made by English teachers in developing new and innovative teaching methods and materials, all directed towards better English education. Mr.Jim Buttery, Director British Council Israel, spoke on the importance of mastering English as a basic tool and not just as a second language. As the winning teachers were called up to the stage, the project each teacher has designed was presented on screen, demonstrating the progress the profession has undergone. The excitement in the audience was barely contained, as principals, students and colleagues flocked to the stage to congratulate each teacher and present them with flowers. The children?s choir from the "Hameginim" school in Holon presented the artistic portion of the event, and made it fly by with beautiful renditions of well known songs, in English, of course. For the grand finale, the audience was treated to Dr. Judy Steiner?s, first time ever, performance of the song "Catch a Falling Star", which had the audience happily singing along and ended the ceremony with an excited optimistic note. -------------------------------------------- Visit the ETNI site - http://www.etni.org Send a message to the ETNI list: etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Send queries and questions to: ask@xxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------
