Announce the opening of a course leading to a diploma required for teaching
the 2-point bagrut program in translation skills

Dear English Teachers,

We are pleased to inform you of our plans to reopen the program for training
teachers of translation skills in the upper grades. The program, which
trained most of those currently teaching translation skills in high schools
throughout the country, offers English teachers (those with a native-like
command of Hebrew) an opportunity to vary their teaching repertory while
also exploring new directions for themselves.

Place: Bar-Ilan University, Department of In-Service Training Courses and
the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies

Time: Tuesdays, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. (a total of 112 hours)

Dates: From October 2006 to June 2007

Tuition: Teachers on sabbatical = 4 hours
Tuition IS 1,460.
A registration fee of IS 130 is required.

Goals:
- To provide insights into the workings of language and the challenge of
bridging between languages
- To practice the skills involved in written translation from English into
Hebrew
- To provide the skills and knowledge required for teaching translation
(from English into Hebrew) to the 11th and 12th grades, as a 2-point bagrut
subject

Requirements:
- Excellent Hebrew (preferably as a mother tongue)
- Excellent English
- Note: Applicants will take an entrance exam comprising two essays (one in
English and one in Hebrew) and a precis in each language.

Course coordinator: Prof. Miriam Shlesinger
