Subject: history in English

Hi, all,

My two cents. . . I once gave a project to a good Yod Aleph
class about famous/ influential Israelis (or thereabouts) and
was shocked at the blank stares when I mentioned
Golda Meir and David Ben-Gurion.? Maybe it's just my school,
but "history" covers a lot of territory, and I'm sure English
teachers can help kids learn a little more that isn't necessarily
covered in the History syllabus, yet can be interesting and
relevant for everyone.

On a different note, I am also contemplating how to go about
at least referring to the war in Lebanon; it's hard to ignore,
especially since the feeling is that between the reservists,
the bereaved families and the Hizbulla it really isn't over yet.

Linda
