This is a true story about beating the computer at its own game,

And I feel, in light of all the whiny letters of failure I subjected you to
previously,

that you deserve to hear it.

My wife is working on a project that has a deadline. This week I took her
regular computer in for cleaning, upgrade and repairs. Well, she came home
with the last 4 hours of work stored on a disk on key, plugged it in to her
upgraded computer, and watched in horror as all the files just disappeared,
leaving the disk on key virtually empty.

Trying to ignore the ensuing screaming and cursing, I plugged it into my
computer and noticed 2 things: That when I clicked 'properties' for the DOK, I
saw that something was taking up the same 250 mega that were being used before
the erasing. Furthermore, when I tried to copy and paste the DOK, I could
watch the files being transferred, even though I could not see them or open
them. Clearly they were still there. I tried 'show hidden files' and this did
not work.

So I coded in to Google, 'my files on the disk on key have been erased by the
virus checker.'

I found several interesting replies, claiming that what happened is a fairly
common mishap, and if I do START, RUN, CMD and another ten things, it will work.

Well, it did. I saved the day and was a big hero.

Just thought you'd like to know that the system can be beaten. Now we have to
tackle the literature program and O'F*K haddash.

With great power comes great responsibility.

PS: What do you do with your extra cables?

You know; every time you buy a computer or device, it comes with one or two
cables, usually identical to another ten that you already have. I just went
through a pile of 50 such cables; many of them I'm just throwing away to save
space. There's nothing wrong with them. If I had to buy them, I would have to
pay 10 to 30 shekels a piece. Is there anyone who recycles this stuff? It
could be turned into clothes lines or something.
