For all of you who asked what we did at our log party, my apologies for taking so long to reply - We had a wonderful log party before Pesach in my 11th grade 4 point class (unfortunately, we never got around to having one in my 12th grade 5 point class). An important point to keep in mind as you read this - I only have 17 girls in this class! I take my hat off to those of you who do the log with full classes of 38+ students. I'm not sure how you do it. I started off by writing the pieces of literature on the board that we had learned, and the students voted for the piece that they liked best and explained why (I was surprised that the winner, hands down, was O. Henry's A Retrieved Reformation, which is not an easy story for 4 pointers). We then played a game that I prepared (attached here) with quotes ("Who said this to whom?") from the different stories, and a reflection that we all did together. I then passed out quotes about reading that I found on the Internet, which we read and discussed (there are some good ones out there). Some of the students prepared games (the best was a game which had them match vocabulary words that we had learned to the stories they came from, all while eating cucumbers! They had a blast! The kind of thing I never would have thought of on my own). At the end I gave them all individualized bookmarks that I had prepared for them saying - You did it! I'm so proud of you! (Reminder - I only have 17 students in this class...). And of course the food was an important part of our celebration. Hope this was helpful.
