**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** Dear List, Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I was always lead to believe that the word "Cloze" came from the name of the person who invented this type of gap-fill technique! The details escape me, but perhaps someone out there has more info on this topic and could post it on the list? And now to add my two pennyworth (English idiom!) to the Native Speaker question. As a Native Speaker and a teacher of only Native Speakers, I feel there is a major difference in in the way I use language in the classroom, compared to a non-NS teacher - complexity, nuance, idiomatic usage and even humour, something I endeavour to pass on to my students, whether they are "full" NS or not. This is in fact the purpose of the class, to teach English as a first rather than a second language. I hope this does not sound arrogant, as this is not the intended tone, and it certainly is no reflection on my or anyone else's ability as a teacher, which is another subject altogether!
