From: laurie@xxxxxxxx Subject: more protest songs.
I'm adding some songs from N. Ireland by Tommy Sands and Colum Sands. Their CDs can be ordered over the web for those interested. Tommy Sands has been very active all his life in the peace movement in the north. The family grew up in the midst of The Troubles.
Tommy Sands: There Were Roses (Singing of the Times) Daughters and Sons (Singing of the Times) Down by the Lagan Side (To Shorten the Winter)
Colum Sands: The March Ditch (The March Ditch) The Last House in Our Street (The March Ditch) Talking to the Wall (The Note that Lingers On) The Child Who Asks You Why (The Note that Lingers On). This song was inspired by Colums visit to Neveh Shalom in Israel.
And.... I Come and Stand, also known as Hiroshima Mothers, Daughters, Wives Sadako All 3 of the above songs are covered by Anne Sands (The Day is Spent)
I've sung/taught many of these songs at various ETAI conferences and the lyrics appear in the songsheets from those workshops.
These are all protest songs touching on peace and war. It wasn't clear if you're interested in songs protesting labor issues...that's a whole other ball game!
May peace be with you all!
Laurie
