Dear Judy,
Perhaps the reason you've gotten so few responses to your appeal for
good questions to answer during your talk at the upcoming conference is
that you preface your request with the provisio, " please send me any
question that you have regarding teaching English in Israel (for ALL
grade levels and not
only about the Bagrut exams - actually it is preferred not to have
questions about the Bagrut.....). "
How can you possibly suggest that you want to hear from us but not
about the BAGRUT. This exam is the long awaited "true representation"
of testing assessment according to the "New Curriculum." We, as
teachers have spent countless hours on projects, rubrics and time
consuming but rewarding alternative forms of assessment to teach
English as both a communicative tool and one that introduces important
cultural themes based on literature since 1998 when the NC was formally
introduced. This summer we were promised a test which was finally
supposed to reflect the changes in the NC. I had imagined your talk
this summer would have focused on the dramatic changes this new test
introduced. I want to hear a talk which compares the two models given
in May ( the last 5 point exam and the EFG style). I want to be able
to explain these changes to my students in September.
Please reconsider the focus of your talk at ETAI and give us what we
deserve.
Sincerely yours, Jennifer Sternlicht
