Hi everyone,
I truly don't understand the schools who dare interfere with the log grades,
really. Cheating can be done everywhere and if a school can demand to check
a copied log then the same could be done during a bagrut exam and a teacher
can be asked to go into a classroom and give out answers (or even, god
forbid, write them on the board...). It's our integrity as TEACHERS to not
let such things happen.
I think what you did is absolutely right to just check the 3 summative
assessments and give the appropriate grade.
I also fail to understand teachers who wait to the end of the process and
just then check the whole log... what I do and so does my whole staff (I'm
the coordinator at my school) is that every completed unit that we finish
the students must hand it in (we give a dead line for each unit in the
course of the year/years we teach the log), this unit is checked and is
given a grade which is recorded and that's it. After we return it to the
student we don't see it again until it returns to us with the whole log
before the submission of the grades and even then we only look roughly at
the whole log (as we already have each unit grade) just to make sure that
everything is there in order to give the final 10% percent of teacher
evaluation, anything that isn't there can't be changed! The grade of the
unit remains the same! Only my 10 % is affected from everything that isn't
there.
We just sent the grades of 5 classes and there were many students who failed
module F or D because they didn't work. True the principle would have wanted
to see it different but that's just the way it is.

I don't think that if we are forced to "cheat" in the LOG then we should
turn to the exam - that's not the solution.

Hi,
Two years ago I also received a copied log, but, thankfully, when i made a
huge deal about it and brought it to the principal and told her that I would
not accept his log, she backed me up. Of course, the kid was in 11th grade,
so the "punishment" was that he had to show up for the 11th grade sessions
the following year when he was in 12th grade and do it again. he barely
passed the second time, but I kept an eagle eye out for copying.
It's really a shame that your school cares more about giving him a grade
than teaching him a lesson. If he cheats on an exam and gets caught, as many
kids do, his exam is invalid. It should certainly be the same for the log.
