Hi Lea,

The way the yearly AKA Magen grade is calculated is that 2/3 of the grade is
the average of the two semesters and 1/3 is the Matkonet exam. As for
your second question, the grades of the literary pieces should be included
in the F Literature grade; if you're doing the exam, for each unit of
literature that you teach, 70% is the summative assessment (test) for that
piece and the remaining 30% is for another component in the unit planner
(such as the post-reading activity). You then calculate the final F grade
based on the grades for each unit, giving different weights to each piece.
For example, a poem has less weight than a story, and a story has less
weight than the play or novel.

Take a look at the Literature Handbook which can be found on the TLC site.
This will show you how to calculate the different elements that make up the
Magen grades for the various modules.

These literature grades shouldn't be included in the grade for Module E but
for Module F. Let's say you have your pupils do Module E in Yud Aleph.
Whatever literature you've taught them in Yud Aleph would carry over to Yud
Bet and wouldn't become part of their Magen grade for Module E.

Hope this helps,

Shabbat Shalom ,

Maxine Tsvaigrach

Subject: [etni] yearly grades

My colleagues and I are deliberating how to calculate the yearly grade
(Magen). We would like to standardize the process. As we need to give three
separate grades for three modules, we believe that it is not fair to include
the grades of the tests about literature pieces .

Do you average the grades of the two terms and then give some weight to the
matkonet test?

What is the % of the matkonet test in the school ("magen" ) grade?

Does it seem right to include grades of literary pieces when they are tested
on module E, for example?

Waiting in anticipation

Lea
