I read all of the documentation when I got the gps and I didn't recall
reading anything in there about any particular way. I only remember that
the manual recommended waiting about 10 seconds before starting the gps.
But we, at the chat, were wondering if it might help to turn the note on
first rather than the receiver?

There is a getting started document for your receiver in the document
receivers folder. Follow those procedures and you should be in good shape.
There are also audio files describing the best way to pair on the Download
page. Make sure you have the documentation for your receiver and version of
Keysoft.
