As the announcements from Vodafone have indicated, existing Wayfinder products will continue to operate, they just won't develop it further or sell any more copies to dealers. There are still plenty of Wayfinder Access units available.
It is also worth noting that the main stream Wayfinder product has also been discontinued, not just Access. Because both products are server based, there is more to continuing this product than taking over the code. There is an entire server and maps to run. I visited one of the Wayfinder offices in Sweden and there was a whole building of people maintaining and running this product.
People should not get their hopes up that Wayfinder Access will be revived with this petition. Perhaps the company will issue more clarification about why it is discontinued. However, it doesn't take much guess work to figure out why a product is discontinued. Clearly it didn't make enough money to remain viable. If you are going to have low prices, there has to be the volume of sales to support that pricepoint. You can have all the best intentions in the world but if the economics are not there to support those intentions, a product will go away.
When you see free Google and Nokia maps, and cheap iPhone apps, it is no wonder companies with millions invested in GPS and map products are scrambling to find their way. It will be very interesting to see what evolves over the next couple years.

All, As some of you know, Way Finder Access GPS has been discontinued. There is a site that is getting signatures together to try to get some answer from the company that has the rights to Way Finder to try to find out what is going to happen with it and if someone else can pick up the coding for it. You can find out more about this by going to the below web site and reading the information on it. We encourage people to sign the site. As of now, Way Finder Access is the only fully usable GPS for the Symbian platform. Yes LoadStone-gps is out there but isn't designed at this time to generate routs for people. You also know that MobileSpeak and Talks screen readers work very well with Way Finder Access. So please take the time to read the following site and sign your name and provide any comments if you have them about the product and how you may use it. www.talknav.com/protest Signed: Stephen Giggar Skype: dr-phone.
