I really can't they are numbers used in a complex mathematical equation to give you the number of feet the GPS system's accuracy is.

Example an HDOP of 2.5 will mean you could be up to 100 feet from where the GPS system tell you are at (100 feet in any direction).
If the HDOP is 1.0 it will mean you could be up to 20 feet from where the GPS system tell you are at.

Note: I pulled those #'s out of the air but are sorta in the right ballpark.

This is why the "Q" command is for geeks who really want to know this information, and why the "G" command just tells you the overall accuracy of the system at any point in time.

I hope that helps.
Charles.

HDOP and VDOP are Horizontal and Vertical Dilution of Precision. These are the main contributes to the overall accuracy in both the Horizontal plane and Vertical Plane. The lower the HDOP the better your 2D accuracy, the lower the VDOP the better your 3D accuracy.
Here is the technical definition of DOP
DOP - Dilution of Precision
Also Geometric Dilution of Precision (GDOP) [GPS] An indicator of satellite geometry for a constellation of satellites used to determine a position. Positions with a higher DOP value generally constitute poorer measurement results than those with lower DOP. Factors determining the total GDOP for a set of satellites include, to name a few, PDOP (Positional DOP), HDOP (Horizontal DOP), VDOP (Vertical DOP), and TDOP (Time DOP).

As always, the letter G tells you how many satellites are being received, and the expected accuracy. I have noticed that the letter Q gives the same information, plus H and V dop. What are they?
