I was a blind car mechanic for 40 years. I have driven a lot but there is one experience that really sticks out. I worked at a Porsche repair shop for a while. I became very good with Carburetors. I had one customer who said that I had to drive the car to tell what was wrong with it. She had practiced this with her husband for a while before asking me to do it, but when we went for a ride she said that the problem didn't happen until she was going faster then 130 miles per hour. She took us to a deserted road, and then she put me at the wheel. She did a very good job of navigating, and I must say that I was both thrilled and scared at the same time. I am convinced that if I could see I would be either a good or a dead race car driver. That was one of the most fun things I have ever done. However, ours was at a driving school circuit. I am South of you in Australia. Does that mean we have supported the myth as being true "smile"? take care Jason ----- Original Message ----- From: Judi Potts To: gps-talkusers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2008 3:36 PM Subject: [gps-talkusers] Re: Myth Busters Blind Driving Re-Enactment In Victoria Australia where I live, we have a chance to drive (albeit on a race track) every March - what a buzz! > Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2008 20:55:33 -0700 > To: gps-talkusers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > From: MikeMay@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [gps-talkusers] Re: Myth Busters Blind Driving Re-Enactment > > Yes, and the blind subject is Jerry Kuns, author of the California > School for the Blind GPS tutorial. > > At 08:25 PM 10/6/2008, you wrote: > >Listers, > > > >Last June, it was mentioned that there was an episode being filmed on > >Discovery Channel's Myth Busters series to see if a blind person could drive > >by verbal instructions, as Al Paccino did in "Scent of a Woman". > > > >That program will air on Wednesday night at 9:00 EDT Discovery Channel will > >have the program on Myth Busters where a blind person attempts to drive a > >Saturn Ion by verbal instructions. > > > >Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often. > > > >Steve > >Lansing, Mi > > > Michael G.
