Peggy,
No, you don't need to uninstall etc. Just start gps, then once the
program is going, hit o a r and you should get a prompt for the
registration key.
It's in the gps options menu under advanced options, and registration.

Okay, I got the new version installed, but I didn't notice the part
about the license key, and I couldn't get the program to start without
hitting either r or t, so I hit t and now it's given me the trial
version. I then saw the thing about the license key, but I don't know
how to make the trial version let me register now so that I can type
in my license key. Please don't tell me I have to uninstall and
reinstall again.
