It seems like this has been a popular subject--Routes and User POIs from 4.22 and earlier. Since this has been a popular subject, I thought that I write up a set of instructions for use with these utilities, which in cases of most users will only have to be used once. Note: The POI and Route converters will only run on a Windows based machine. Downloading and Installing Conversion Utilities 1. Please visit http://GoSendero.com/ 2. Enter your BrailleNote's Serial Number (which can be found by pressing SPACE with I (READ with I) from the Main Menu and by pressing SPACEBAR twice. 3. Enter your password, which in most cases is your last name. 4. Select the link entitled "GPS 5.0 PC Conversion Utilities. Converts 4.x and earlier user POIs and routes to GPS 5.0. (6 MB)," which can be found udner the product seciton, which also contains the product installation file, Manual and Audio Tutorial as well as the GPS Uninstall utility. Note: The GPS Uninstall Utility is different than the one available under 4.22 and earlier, which is a result of there no longer being a "Settings" folder as those items have been moved up a level from Flash disk\GPS\Settings to Flash disk\GPS and a few other mmodification of system files that reside in Flash disk\Windows\Sys (changed a few .pll files to .dll files). 5. When prompted to Run or Save, Select Run. 6. Let the file download, once completed; the system may prompt if you wish to Run it again, Select Run. 7. Follow the On-Screen guide, once complete; the system will prompt "ConversionUtilities has been successfully installed. Click "Close" to exit." at which time you can press ENTER. 8. The POI and Route Conversion Utilities have successfully been installed. Note: the POIConverter and RouteConverter can either be found on the Windows Desktop or C:\Program Files\Sendero Group LLC Converting Routes from 4.22 to 5.0 1. Windows key+D to Move to the Desktop 2. Press R until "RouteConverter" has focus and press ENTER 3. TAB to the "Browse" button and press ENTER. 4. Tab to the "Look in:" drop down box and locate the drive and folder that the 4.22 and earlier routes are stored and press ETNER. 5. Tab to the list of files, select one of the routes ending with a .GPS extension and press ENTER 6. Tab to the "Start" button and press ENTER. 7. Focus will now be moved to the "Total Route(s) Converted" read-only window, which will display the number of Route(s) converted so far and will continue to update and will give a tone when the conversion process has finished. 8. Both the Routes from 4.22 and Routes under 5.0 will be placed in the same folder, but 5.0 will only see the converted routes ending with a .rte extension. Note: The above steps will work for the POIConverter, but where there are references made to R, RouteConverter, Routes, GPS extension and .rte; they will be P, POIConverter, User POIs, .POI extension and .rte respectively when using the POIConverter. Layout of Utility When first running either utility, the layout is as follows: Note: Tab will move through the different parts of the utility, Up and Down Arrow will move within the read-only windows, ESCAPE will close the utility and ENTER will activate the buttons. Best part to this application is that there are no menus to get lost in! 1. Read-only window, which gives the utility's name, version number and release date. 1.1. Edit field, which requires an Author Name for Converted User POIs. 2. Edit field to type in the directory of 4.22 and earlier Routes or User POIs. 3. Browse button to browse for Routes or User POIs from 4.22 and earlier. 3.1. Edit field, which is an optional field to ENTER a State/Province for the converted User POIs. 3.2. Edit field, which is an optional field to ENTER a Country for the converted User POIs. 4. Read-only window, which displays the Conversion Log, which contains details of the conversion process. 5. Read-only window, which displays the number of User POIs or Routes converted. 6. Start button, which will Start the conversion process. 7. Exit button, which will Exit the utility. Note: the subsections are in place as they are only available when using the POIConverter. Thanks, Kevin
