Hi Brett,
In some cities TeleAtlas data is far superior to Navteq data, plus we have over 12 million POIs from TeleAtlas in North America which is about 5 to 10 times the amount of POIs than Navteq, so this is currently why we are getting our maps and POI data from TeleAtlas. Besides there is licensing fees to pay so we can't just get our maps from one company and the pois from another. There are also other issues where they won't sell their pois unless you also purchase their maps. So yes if we really wanted to buy both sets of maps and POIs but then we would then have to pass on the cost to end users and you would be paying a lot more which wouldn't fly either. So as they say we are between a rock and a hard place.

Thanks
Charles.

Hi,

Just curious, if TeleAtlis seems to have quite a few mapping and POI problems, Why is NavTech not considered or used, since consensus seems to be that Navtech is more accurate, according to reviews I have red.

Cheers,
Brett.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] Skewed POI Data

Hi All,

Sadly, the Version 5 POI database is still very skewed in my home area. My church, for example is about 500 feet off from the POI data. My home is at the wrong end of the block. Starbucks should be on the corner of 1st and Main, but when I go to 1st and main in virtual mode, Starbucks is 107 feet away. Loney's Harvest Food on South 2nd is more than a block away from its actual location. If I place my virtual location at 2nd and Morton, the real Loney's is on the southeast corner of that intersection. True enough, the actual store is set far back from 2nd Avenue with its parking lot in front of it. However, the GPS POI places it north of Maple, 782 feet north of itself.

The POI data for my Hair salon, Special FX, is in close approximation with the POI data for Loney's and this is also far off. In reality, it is near 2nd street in the Loney's parking lot. the POI is, indeed, near Loney's, but this puts it more than a block away from itself.

The YMCA is on the southeast corner of Birch and Park. The POI data puts it >100 feet away, North of Birch on park.

some businesses seem to be close to their actual location but on the wrong side of the street.

The map indicates that Birch Street does not go through at 2nd. It indicates that the intersection does not line up, but in reality it does. There are many streets that do not line up here, but this is not one of them. I would still say that the database is still so confused here that it makes the GPS POI data of little value. What can be done to correct this? I thought that Tele Atlas was to have come here to check things out.

Would it be helpful if I visit several businesses that I know to be off and set a user POI and send the file to Sendero, would this help fix the problems?

Please know that these are not isolated samples. They are just places where I am vary familiar and can easily visit them in virtual mode. I purchased this upgrade very hopeful that the anticipated corrections had been made to the map for my area.

Joleen
