Alex in this version you follow the route by using the arrow keys or keys 2346. They set it up that way so you can consentrate on the route and not get lost.
Most people find this easier. If you want to explore don't make a route automatically.
My suggestion is to read chapter or section 13 in your gps manual about routes and read the section about virtual exploring too.

I did that, but have not heard back. I tried to load my route in virtual mode, but I could not go left or right. I had never used a route in virtual--could you ever move around and not be told "you can only go forward in a route" or whatever it is? That is the problem: I cannot tell if it is the receiver or the software if I cannot go off the route virtually and see what happens. Oh, well, I guess that is why I don't work for Sendero.

and save a
route and send it via email or whatever to anyone who you feel
might be able
to help.
