Hello listers:

We have posted a summary of Mobile Geo phones on the Sendero website. I have pasted that text below. We will be updating it as we go along.

Tips and Guidelines for purchasing Windows SmartPhones for use with Mobile Speak and Mobile Geo in the U.S., June 2009

Note: Geo does not run on Symbian phones like the Nokia N82. If you want the best mobile GPS, purchase a Windows-based phone to run Geo. If the KNFB Reader is a priority, you must use it on the N82 and Sendero can provide that package along with the Wayfinder Access GPS, not as good as Geo but your only option for Symbian.

Tips: Please let Sendero know if you have feedback about your favorite phone not mentioned here.

1. Sendero recommends users go to a phone store for their preferred service provider in order to touch the various phone models before purchasing. You must determine for yourself if you can get used to the number pad or keyboard. There are scores of models which will work with Mobile Speak and Geo. However, the phones listed below are ones we know blind users have had success with.

2. Those phones offered by the providers under a contract are going to be much less expensive than the phones, which will work with the carrier but are not under contract. Make certain if purchasing off the Internet that the phone is "unlocked", meaning it will work with either T-Mobile or AT&T and is not locked to a provider the way a phone under contract would be. A phone purchased at the provider's store will be locked to that provider but you will pay less.

3. Sendero has experience only with the HTC S730 and S740. Models come and go quickly so there are no guarantees about the availability or functionality of any of these phones. For customers who purchase directly from Sendero, we will do our best to help with your device but any hardware specific issues must be handled by the manufacturer.

4. Although some phones have built in GPS receivers, we recommend an external Bluetooth receiver because of better accuracy and battery life. Sendero sells the Iblue GPS receiver but other receivers should also pair with the phone.

5. A faster processor speed and higher memory capacity is helpful when running multiple applications. Try for a processor over 300 MHZ if possible.

6. There are touch-screen Pocket PC devices being used successfully by blind users. However, we recommend a Smartphone. AT&T currently has the best offerings and you can use the unlocked phones with AT&T or T-mobile.
