I really find this response refreshing. So many times we hear from people who are needing to be blind or who reject change because it's some sort of asalt on their "blindness". It's nice to see someone else who finds this stuff positive, exciting. I mean just turn on the news, there's a lot of great tech news lately not the least of which is the development of possible technologies to restore tissues, regenerate nurve tissues, restore brain functions from advanced illnesses like alsheimers and Parkensons, regenerate retinal tissue, create structures for processing visual data later in life to address plasticity, human machine biological interfaces and on and on. (nothing to major) Take GPS for example to stay with the general thrust of the list. We all have devices approximately the size of match books that with in a few seconds calculates down to a matter of 6 feet + or - depending on conditions our location in 3 dimentions, presents highly accurate time and allows us to plot direction and speed. (Match book sized, $50 on amazon) I'd like to remind everyone that up until the last century (with in the time frame of some still alive) the best we could do is hope it wasn't cloudy, look up in the sky, and match the stars to a chart and hope we were with in a few hundred miles of our course. The act of way finding used to be not only a full time job for some but a closely guarded, highly saught after skill! (not $50 on amazon) We've got some big issues and challenges but it's nice to see a little excitement instead of fear and rejection of change.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] self-driving cars:

I find the idea of a self-driving car one of the most fabulous things in the world. Imagine me driving from Arizona to Ohio and back. And they are also working on artificial facial recognition in a pair of glasses so just think what we have to look forward to. Imagine the kids in 2208 asking why we used those long sticks to guide us.
It is indeed the most exciting of times in which we live.
