Hi, I think there's some confusion, pedestrian is not a mode, it's a route type. The system has two modes, GPS or Virtual. GPS is when you are tracking live and virtual is where you can explore anywhere without having a GPS receiver connected. A pedestrian route is a route that you create to get walking directions that do not obey the rules of the road. IE. you can go down a one way street in the other direction. Also when creating a pedestrian route you are not led onto highways etc. You can see the type of route you are following by pressing R then I for route information. Hope this helps.
