Subject: [gps-talkusers] curious about the POI data supplier

The core business for Tele Atlas is street maps. Other companies collect and maintain the Points of Interest database.

We used to license POI data from one of these companies but have recently signed a new license with Tele Atlas for POI data as well as map data. They still don't maintain the POI data but because they are such a large company, we were able to work out a better POI licensing deal through them than we previously had.

This gives us access to 12 million points of interest in over 100 categories. These points are more up to date and will be updated on a more regular basis. Now, the challenge for us is just how to deal with 12 times as many POIs on the BrailleNote compared to what you currently have.

One day we are vying for better POI data and the next we are looking at this mountain of data and asking how we climb it.

Hi folks!
Does tele atlis only concern themselves with the street maps? Does Sendero go to other companies for the poi database or is this all one big package.
