[gps-talkusers] Re: describing intersections and fully accessible turn-by-turn routing

I wonder if I am missing something regarding that. How would I make it say what
street and intersection I am coming up to if it gets interrupted by some random
POI I am coming near? Shaking it seems to give the the direction and distance
to my destination, but is there a way to review what the intersection it said
was?

turn-by-turn routing

In fact, Seeing Eye does describe intersections the same as our other
products. We have an entire second server dedicated to this task. It was very
difficult to implement because no commercial product or map company had this
feature.

We can hear it is a 4-way or a 3-way intersections and which streets go which
ways.

Also, the turn-by-turn navigation is built into the app. No need to spin off
to another program, which doesn’t give you the high level of prompting Seeing
Eye gives you. The commercial routing programs are geared for what sighted
people need and not what blind people need.

But BlindSquare does do that. It announces intersections as you approach them
and it will plan out routes albeit using Google Maps or Apple Maps as you
choose.

As far as I know neither describes intersections as does Trekker Breeze but I
don't think anything but Trekker Breeze does that.

BlindSquare has had user defined points for as long as I have known it.

Blindsquare doesn't do turn by turn directions. Seeing Eye is probably one
of the few that does that will tell you what street you're coming up to as
you're walking, although at times, it interrupts itself with POI's I don't care
about. I wonder how you get it to say the street info again when it does do
this?

What do you see as the advantage of Seeing Eye over BlindSquare?

Well, I am glad and hope they work like I think they will as I live way
out in the country and what I navigate by mostly is landmarks/POI that I create
and then create a rout to them. If it does work like I want it to then SE
(Seeing Eye will become my main GPS and BSQ (Blind Square ) will become my 2nd
and then Navigant 3rd and Maps my 4th.

I'm glad the points of interest that we can add will be coming. I
always thought this feature would be necessary to be able to go to a bus stop
you're not real familiar with because you might make it to the destination with
directions from the app, if the stop is midblock, knowing which poll to wait at
could be difficult if there aren't other landmarks near the bus stop. It seems
that there are more of these stops in my area that aren't at a street corner,
and I've been afraid of not being able to find them when it comes time to get
the bus back towards home.

What are the new features in version 2.0?

Ok, the new Seeing eye 2.0 is in the app store? I assume the one with
the personal landmarks/POI’s ? This is great someone let me know please when it
is released from the app store so I can do the one month trial version and if I
like it will get the full paid version for 299 bucks I think it is.

Listers,

We have submitted the apps to Apple. If all goes smoothly, the
release could happen in a week or so. They can reject for small reasons so
cross our fingers that this does not happen.

I will keep you posted. The final step is when they alert us that the
app is pending. At that point, it will be out in a day. I can’t wait to have
you try out the new User POI recording. It is really fun and useful.
