If memory serves, and I tend to get things set up and then forget on occasion, but I believe the Sense note takers already have the Sense NAV program installed, but then one needs to have a specific key on their machine to make the program work. The programs are fairly similar in what they do, although some of the commands do differ a bit in how their executed, and some in even the type of info they give. Although, I'm certainly no expert, having more actively started using the Sense NAV with my Voice Sense only a week or two ago when I got the combo case for the Voice Sense and SyncBraille.
I mostly use the GPS to let me know where I am around town, either while walking or in a cab or on the city bus going to and from work. And, one of the things I've had to get used to along the way is the difference in how the x command behaves on the two units when one is say riding on the bus. For, I was always used to the PK or mPower telling me my nearest intersection ahead of me, while it seems the Sense note takers give the nearest intersection in any direction.
You can get some idea of how the Voice Sense and Sense NAV work by listening to the demo Raul recorded for the Accessible World Tek Talk chat, or to the Main Menu show where Raul spent pretty much of two hours going over the Sense NAV and its features.
Finally, as to the maps and purchasing them twice, well, I don't know, but just assumed that the Sendero GPS and Sense NAV were two separate products, and thus did not ask about any discount when contacting GW Micro to purchase the Voice Sense and Sense NAV. However, grin, what with the Sendero GPS soon to be on the Windows Mobile phones as well, and since I have both a Windows Mobile Pocket PC and a Windows Mobile Smartphone, I'm kind of starting to wonder about having so many different sets of the same maps for so many different products. But, I'm sure that will be sorted out later.

and I would imagine it is a pretty different program because of
the buttons
you have to tab to. But the maps are interchangeable and your
pois are
interchangeable too.
