Hi Mike, this is great. I've been wanting that feature for years. Not only is it great as you described it for your needs, but for people riding bikes and of course, just trying to stay off congested freeways when so often that isn't necessary to get from point a to point b when you are traveling short distances. Can't wait! Thanks for all of your hard work and that of your most able team! Jim

If you are only going a few miles, dealing with a highway, especially if there is traffic, is something to be avoided.
Last night, I was navigating from our hotel in Burlingame to IlFornaio, about 1 mile away. Since the hotel is smack next to highway 101, the normal route creation put us on the highway. We actually had to go two miles on 101 to get to the first exit. We missed that exit so when we got off, 3 miles down the road, I suddenly thought of the new feature of version 2010 to calculate a route avoiding highways.
Hard to teach an old dog new tricks so to speak. We were at the restaurant in no time. On our way back, I used this new feature and we were back at thehotel in 5 minutes. Not only was it shorter, it was much simpler on
surface streets versus all those highway ramps. The default vehicle route uses highways because the route is looking for the fastest route based on the speed rating of the various roads.
It knows nothing about traffic and commute hours. There are a number of new route creation options in 2010 and this avoid highway option sure has and will come in handy. Mike Mike Michael G.
