Yes. Nearby is still going.
And, this list is for any navigation questions or observations, indoors or
outdoors, IOS or Android.

I take it that this is the e-mail list for goodmaps--the same as for Seeing
Eye Sendero

Android is being worked on as we speak. As the announcement indicated,
Android should be out by January if not sooner.

Am I correct that this is not an App available for Android? I've looked on
the web site and even the App page isn't clear on which systems are
supported.

Bob, what buildings have you seen using it with indoor navigation. The only
one I see is APH and some museum in Louisville -- that is it!, a grand total
of two.

I have been working with GoodMaps. It is awesome as it works with
speech, a Braille Display, or both together.
When you install GoodMaps, you will have an Explore icon. When you
open it, you land on the Location screen and your location is spoken.
On the Location screen, you will also find a Search box where you can
enter search for an address or POI.
On the bottom of the screen, you can swipe to navigate between four
tabs; Location, Favorites, Lookaround, and a More Tab. Double-tap to
select the tab that you want.
If you select the More Tab,, there will be a Configuration button, an
Indoor Venues button, and a Tutorials button. Double-tap the Tutorials
button for excellent instructions.
When you are walking with the app, upcoming intersections are spoken
as you approach them, and streets that you are crossing show up as Nearby.
Also, nearby POIS are spoken so that you have an idea of what is around.
It doesn't speak too many POIS, so it is not distracting. And, you can
double-click any poi to open a list of all nearby POIS.
On the More Tab there is an Indoor Venues button where you can explore
some buildings that have been mapped. You can open an indoor venue and
choose it as your virtual location; then choose the Lookaround tab. If
you then turn the phone clockwise or counterclockwize while holding it
horizontally, you will hear a virtual description of points in the
building. Double-Tap one of these points to obtain directions to it.
. If you open the Lookaround Tab when you are in standard outdoor
mode, you can click on POIS that you hear and either save them as
favorites or get directions to them using Google or Apple maps.
Braille Displays. I tested the app with both the QBraille and the
Focus 14. The Focus 14 is very portable and easy to carry. So, I
paired my phone with an Aftershokz headset and the Focus 14. I was
able to run the app using only the Braille display while leaving the
phone in a pouch on my belt.
Use the Right Nav Rocker to move through buttons and tabs. Use the
Right Nav Rocker button to click any button or tab.
I switched to computer Braille input by pressing Spacebar with
dots2,3,8 and used Spacebar with G to switch output to Literary
Braille. I could then input search addresses and points using computer
braille, and read the display using literary Braille. It was awesome
to be able to read street names in Braille.
Note that, when not using a Braille display, you can do a two-finger
double-tap in the Search box, and then dictate your search address or
point. When done dictating, do a two-finger double tap to end dictation.
Anyway, this GoodMaps Explore app is really worth taking a look at.
The development was done by GoodMaps in conjunction with APH, so they
have an indoor map of the American Printing House for the Blind that
you can navigate virtually.
GoodMaps is really worth taking a good look at.

Hi,
I got an email about this app and the fact that it works with indoor
as well as outdoor navigation.
I downloaded the app but haven't had a chance to try it out.
Does anybody know anythhing about this app and how well it works?
I think they are in Louisville Ky. I wondered if APH had anything to
do with the development.
