I was out on a bike to a restaurant yesterday, only went about a mile.
Everything worked great going to the restaurant, told us where to turn,
about intersections etc. However, starting with my 4S at 100% battery,
while eating my phone dropped to 20%, granted, I was using the Bluetooth
Aftershokz headset, but it was still charged at 88%. I obviously turned off
the app on the way home, we know our way.

I thought that the info I had been getting off Blind square was great but
this is better. Next time I will have to find my external battery and
figure how I can carry it safely.

Subject: [gps-talkusers] iPhone and Seeing Eye GPS App

Hi!
Just got back from taking the Seeing Eye gps on its first walk with the
iPhone.
Now, mine is the iPhone 4 S. Here is what happened.
I was doing my basic morning exercise walk with numerous street crossings
and it is about a mile in length.
First, I was able to get location to work somewhat.
Keep that word "Somewhat" in mind.
We started off and the phone was very slow to respond. I hit the home button
and restarted the app and was really happy to hear automatic announcements
of detailed intersections.
That stopped just before I reached the main drag in Scottsdale, Indian
School road.
While that was going on, I experimented with shaking the phone and that was
a sometimes thing.
So, I powered the phone off to clear the buffers and after the phone
restarted, I immediately went back into Seeing Eye GPS.
Ok, here is where the fun started. We lost automatic detection of up and
coming intersections.
I reached a parking lot and continued straight and was very surprised at how
the gps picked up the next intersection after shaking the phone.
That happened for 2 streets.
Then something really strange began to occur.
I shook the phone and learned that my next intersection was not Main street
and 78th but I would be coming up to 78th and 4th avenues.
Being absolutely familiar with where I was I knew that was totally wrong.
78th and Main merge and I have heard this app tell me that.
Ok, I got up to where I cross (A T. intersection,) and headed for the ramp
which takes me into my complex. when I shook the phone I was informed I was
standing on Main street but my nearest intersection was 4th avenue.
The wand:
I have to work with this. And I have to reread the users guide. I pointed it
toward my complex and it told me I was facing north east. I then turned 160
degrees and pointed it toward the complex across from me and nothing.
So, there you have it I actually did get a couple of pois as we were
traveling unfortunately both have gone out of business one has had another
restaurant in that spot which went under last year.
I am not going to beat Sendero up at all. I think we may have had a
reduction in satellites hence the strange intersections, and this iPhone is
2 years old, so, it has been dropped a couple of times and tends to be
sluggish pretty much of the time.
I was using the Navtec maps in this little experiment.
For now this gps works better on the iPad but I'm going to get a new iPhone
come October, so I think things will work better after that.
What do I think?
Well . for what I do in my basic morning exercise walk, the Sendero Look
around works much better. For traveling by car you can't beat the ease of
use of this app.
How was the battery life?
Well I used 19 percent of the charge which is about average. I had no
headphones or keyboards running with the phone. I had it running for a
longer period than I did with the iPad on Wednesday, half an hour was how
long it was running.
That pretty much does it but for my morning routing until this location
thing is fixed I will either use sense nag or the Sendero look around app.
Happy traveling!
