Strange. I just tried using startx /usr/bin/i3 without having a .xinitrc
and it works fine with fish as a login shell (I start urxvt, though, xterm
does not seem to work for some strange reason). So, can you try startx
/usr/bin/i3, not having a .xinitrc and using urxvt?
