Hi IG-RY,
Firstly a very happy and merry Christmas to one and all.
Enjoy the festivities.
This contest was almost a complete disaster.
We had a really big storm passing through. It caused some really big
destruction all over the country AND WITH MY ANTENNA’S!!
I lost the 40m dipole early in the morning and it was just too windy to go and
try and repair anything.
So operated with the doublet there and it does not perform nowhere near as good
on that band.
Being QRP I need all the performance I can get!
I feel the bands were pretty poor, lots of deep QSB and very strange openings
on certain bands.
Very spotlight, could not hear half of Europe on 20m when I should be hearing
them in normal days.
Although North America was very good most of the afternoon, with better signals
than EU.
Decided with around 6 hours to go to pull the plug and lower the spiderpole to
save any more destruction.
The contest was over!
This morning I woke to find the wind gone, a beautiful morning. Repaired
everything that was broken and put it all back in the sky, added more guy wires
on the pole to help in future storms.
It was great to see so many active from IG-RY, showing we are an active group
and with some excellent scores in difficult bands.
