[Ilugc] Any Finger Print Reader for Authentication?

I doubt if it will work. These are USB connected internal devices and
need drivers.
as far as I'm aware, these devices use a Broadcom chip. Apart from
this, the windows login module has been integrated with this device
specifically.
My wireless device is made by Broadcom and in additional Drivers it
detected and working fine. Do you know any driver that support my Finger
Print Reader although am not sure about who is the manufacturer. Thanks for

Just now i tried to find the name of the manufacturer for my FingerPrint
Reader using 'lsusb' command and here is the output that gives the name:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 138a:0005 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS301 Fingerprint
Reader
Its Validity Sensors, Inc. and when i surfed on their site i found this
statement:
"Does the Validity fingerprint sensor support Linux based operating systems?
Validity does not offer Linux drivers and software direct to consumers. We
are working with our qualified software partners to develop Linux based
solutions. If you are a software developer and want to become a qualified
Validity solution provider for Linux-based solutions, visit

It looks like even though if they develop the driver for Linux Operating
Systems, it is not going to be FOSS driver, So is there any Free open source
driver that supports this device? Even i tried with pam_fprint , it does not
detects the device. From this issue i feel like i wanted to develop my own
driver for this hardware but don't know anything about how to program for
Linux drivers. All i know is Linux Device Drives has .so extension.
Any sort of help is welcome, either recommending any other driver for this
device or helping me to get started with Linux Device Driver development for
this driver. Thanks for reading this with patience.
