For some time I was thinking about the purpose of WHATWG, the group
that promotes HTML5 and all other standards that make web application.
The last time I digged around them, W3C seem to have Microsoft
sympathizers and WHATWG seem to have Apple, Google sympathizers.
Native apps on iOS and Android are important for Apple and Google. And
interestingly WHATWG, the group that splintered from W3C on XHTML
issues, and promoted HTML5, is not involved in touch events ? Or that
only W3C is being sued ?
While Mozilla, Opera, Safari, Chrome et all other than IE are moving
with WHATWG (the live standard concept making a release every 6 weeks
or so), shouldn't we be focusing whether touch events are available on
WHATWG ?
With a larger controversy between W3C and WHATWG looming around, this
micro-controversy on W3C makes me skeptical on this controversy
itself.

Apple has been garnering quite a reputation for itself as a patent
bully, for example using patents around the world in an attempt to
stop Samsung competing in the tablet market, and bolstering patent
trolls. But that's not enough for the company, it seems: now it wants
to use patents to block open standards.
As befits an organization that seeks to promote the Web, the World
Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has a clear policy on the use of patents in
its standards:
? ?In order to promote the widest adoption of Web standards, W3C
seeks to issue Recommendations that can be implemented on a
Royalty-Free (RF) basis. Subject to the conditions of this policy, W3C
will not approve a Recommendation if it is aware that Essential Claims
exist which are not available on Royalty-Free terms.
