I just want to know why the version number of Debian
Sarge is 3.1 ?
Woody was released way back in 19 July 2002. Even
after doing a hell of changes from then, Sarge has
been released as 3.1 [ Sarge 3.1 = Woody 3.0 + 0.1
!!!??? ]. Almost all the major components has been
updated in Sarge.
Why they are changing just the minor number, even for
a major release ?
This is not the case, just for this release.
Have a look at all the stable releases
# Debian GNU/Linux 1.1 ('buzz')
# Debian GNU/Linux 1.2 ('rex')
# Debian GNU/Linux 1.3 ('bo')
# Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 ('hamm') [ A Steep Jump from
1.3 ?]
# Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 ('slink')
# Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 ('potato')
# Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 ('woody') [ A Steep Jump from
2.2 ?]
# Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 ('sarge')
What makes them to follow such an irregular release
numbering convention ?

I run but it stays right by my side,
And Even the Pain too "hates" me,
So tell me why u have chosen me.
