Greetings All,
Recently I was watching documentary on *The Internet's Own Boy: The Story
of Aaron Swartz *(though, late but never).
In the documentary, Aaron said many times that *'information should be
free'*.
What exactly did he mean by this?
Why most science journals or PhD holders or research fellows don't publish
their work free of cost?
(Obviously, why should one publish his/her work free of cost for which
(s)he worked tirelessly or burned midnight oil)
Seen few journals for my cousin's research work and all were paid :(
Why don't libraries or particular universities publish their research
fellows work for free of cost? It means they are looking for business and
not for serving to society (actually they meant for the latter purpose).
If FB and Google are providing their services to everyone free of cost.
Then on the other side they are collecting our data and selling it to
marketing companies for profit making so it means there is a business in
this deal.
But what was his theory behind this statement: *'information should be
free'.*
What I perceived from this is: He wanted to educate and improve the society
by spreading knowledge and that too free of cost.
Anyways, respect to that young boy who sacrificed his life at such a young
age for such a beautiful thought (when mostly among us do not know what
exactly they want to do in their life).
He will be missed for sure.
RIP Aaron. :(
