Another option, one that I like to pimp often - as some of you might
already have realised : is to find projects you care about the most and
things that make your life easier. And then reach out to the developers
of those project with ideas that would help you most, or make it easier
for other people to use the same projects. Depending on feedback,
consider posting patches.
That way you not only help contribute and make the entire ecosystem
grow, but you also already have some level of stake ownership in the
contributed code ( in that you use the base that its being built on )
