Most likely it was Mandrake 7.2. It somewhat resembled RedHat's distro
back then, with support for installation on the Windows (FAT) partition
itself.

Sorry,

The linux I installed in my Win98 machine was PCQLinux7.1(which was
released around June 2001).I am sure it was not Xandros or Lindows or
mandrake.

I can now try Knoppix. But now I would like to experiment kernel
compilation.(upgrading from lower version to kernel 2.6). So I dont
want to run from CD.
