Check if you are using XFree86 or Xorg from the output
of:
X -version
Your XF86Config or XOrgConfig file is present under
/etc/X11/. You can add your resolution there, provided
your video driver supports it. You can also
reconfigure your X using xf86config/xf86cfg or
xorgconfig/xorgcfg from the terminal console.
