[Ilugc] How to type proper Tamil in terminal / command-line

Hi all,
              I need to feed Tamil input to a script in command-line. In
Gedit there is no issue.
If i type in Tamil via IOK (Indic Onscreen Keyboard) in terminal, the words
are not typed as expected but with extra dotted circles.
Please guide me.
