Let us assume that you are right and you are the only person going to be
contributing to your software. Even then, ?without the version history
and a clean record of the fixes you did and the rationale behind them,
you are likely to forget them and end up having to figure out why the
heck you changed something a few months down the line ? Also, ?if this
is free and open source software, it can end up getting used in
surprising ways and sometimes long after you lost interest. ?Having
version control that captures the changes goes a long way towards the
feasibility of someone else taking over. ? I strongly believe that using
version control is absolutely necessary as a basic tool regardless of
the size of the software. ?With software like etc-keeper, you can store
even changes in /etc/ configuration files in version control with a
apt-get or yum plugin and this too is quite handy
