HTH :)
Kumar,
Congrats! I am yet to read it. But I will surely do.
The first line must be true but I hardly ever use xmms.
I am very happy with mpg321,ogg123 or mplayer.
I am very much into audio processing and I recently had to do a lot of
it to remove noise and amplify, filter and enhance an AM radio performance
recorded on an audio cassette.
The results were really impressive. I used sox.
RTFM soxexam(1)
I had lot of fun reading it. You can add virtually any effect on earth,
add 6 walls for echo, chorus effect, panning, reverbration, echo, echos ,
companing and so on.
I think with proper 3D audio system and good speakers, one can do full
fledged audio processing with it.
I used to use audacity as that is also quite powerful. For sound
editing like snipping and cutting samples, I much prefer the audacity GUI
interface.
It supports good zooming for cutting certain pesky portions. Hard to
get right without zooming.
Have you tried these?
Maybe one day I will take a look at xmms...
regards,
Girish
